Tragedy struck at a Red Hot Chili Peppers concert in Philadelphia when concertgoer Thomas Decort slipped and hit his head when trying to navigate his way to his seat in the pitch black Well Fargo Center. While his initial injuries were not life-threatening, what happened on the operating table ended in death.
TMZ reports on the death, “Thomas Decort went to Well Fargo Center in Philly on February 12 to catch the show. According to the lawsuit, while he was walking to his seat in a pitch black area he slipped and fell, hitting his head, neck and back on the floor. He also tore a tendon in his knee, which required surgery. During the surgery, Decort suffered a pulmonary embolism and died on the operating table.”
Wrongful deaths can take many forms. Some individuals die instantly (usually a car crash or impact-based accident); some individuals suffer and die over time from the accident; and some individuals have complications from their injuries and surgeries that cause the death. Whatever the case, wrongful deaths are avoidable deaths which is why a lawsuit can do so many things to help. For many, a wrongful death lawsuit will not only help with the financial loss they have suffered but can also help with the emotional healing by holding the other party legally accountable for the death.
In the case of Decort, his suit is not against the Red Hot Chili Peppers but against the city of Philadelphia and the concert venue. In cases like this, the lawsuits will allege that negligence caused the fall and that he never would have needed the surgery that led to his death had he not fallen in the first place.
