WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COMPLETE AND INCOMPLETE SPINAL CORD INJURIES?

Posted by Robert Walch | 19 December 2017 | 0 Comments

Any injury to your spinal cord can be serious and life-changing. And many of these spinal cord injuries are caused by a traumatic event such as a car accident. In fact, car accidents account for 35% of all spinal cord injuries every year. Why? Because the extreme trauma and force of an accident all too easily damages your delicate spin. With California being one of the most common states in the U.S. to get into a car accident, it is no wonder that so many of these injuries happen in California as well.

Whether from a serious car accident or another event, spinal cord injuries are placed in two classifications: incomplete and complete. The difference between these two types of spinal cord injuries has to do with the extent (or completeness) of the injury.

And incomplete spinal cord injury is one in which the patient has some level of feel/motion/sensation at and below where the injury took place. A complete spinal cord injury is one in which there is some level of paralysis at and below where the injury occurred. A complete spinal cord injury can range from paralysis in one limb of the body to both limbs in the body. With the loss of some or all motion and sensations comes a lot of other serious medical issues that many patients have to deal with, including: circulatory issues, bowel problems, respiratory complications and chronic aches and pains.

Whatever injury you are dealing with, a spinal cord injury is serious and life-changing and also extremely expensive to deal with going forward. When your injury is the result of the negligent actions of someone else, you should not be the one footing the bill for all your expenses and changes in your life.

A personal injury lawsuit can help provide financial support following your accident and for many, a sense of justice following their accident.
