WRONGFUL DEATH SUIT FILED BY EAGLES GUITARIST GLENN FREY WIDOW

Posted by Robert Walch | 17 January 2018 | 0 Comments

Legendary Eagles guitarist Glenn Frey passed away in January 2016 at the age of 67 following complications with acute ulcerative colitis, pneumonia and rheumatoid arthritis. Now, his widow along with his three children have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the New York hospital that she believes failed to properly treat and monitor her late husband’s health.

Mount Sinai hospital as well as the treating doctor have been named in the wrongful death suit claiming that their negligence was the cause of Frey’s death. Reuters reports on some of the allegations put forth in the wrongful death suit, “failing to properly treat her late husband’s ulcerative colitis, diagnose and treat infection and advice the risks and side effects from treatment. As a result, Glenn Frey was rendered sick, sore, lame and disabled.”

What Cindy Frey is essentially alleging is medical malpractice that lead to the death of her husband. In order to be successful in a medical malpractice wrongful death claim, Frey must show that the hospital and named physician in the lawsuit deviated from the professional standard of care they owed Glenn as a patient. Easier said than done as medical malpractice wrongful death cases are always complicated because medicine and treatments are so complicated. When successful, a California medical malpractice wrongful death case can help compensate the grieving family for a range of things, including:

  • Medical bills
  • Funeral costs
  • Missed work and lost wages (this can be very substantial in the case of a high-earner like Glenn Frey)
  • Loss of companionship and parenting
  • Pain and suffering

While a wrongful death case can never bring a loved one back, it can help ease the financial loss associated with the death. Additionally, it can help impact a positive change and provide a sense of justice and closure following an avoidable death. For instance, if the hospital and doctor are found to be at fault in the case of Glenn Frey, the public scrutiny in addition to the financial punishment could help spur a positive change in how they approach cases similar to Frey and help to ensure that others don’t die as a result of similar negligence.
